Imitation of ‘A song about myself’

There was a restless girl,

A restless girl was she,

She would not stop at home,

She could not quiet be —

She took

In her Heart

A parchment rolled

Full of guilt

And anger

With trace of gash —

A slight gap

For night cap —

New stitches

For old ones

Would split!

This heart

Set tight

By rib and cage

She rivetted close

And followed her skin

To the East,

To the East,

And follow’d her skin

To the East.

There was a restless girl

A restless girl was she,

For nothing would she do

But Hark and Sing —

She took

Fire raging

In her bones

And a cord

Wide as the ocean,

And away

She ran

To the mountains

And the ghosts

And the friends

And the foes

To the dazzles

And the shadows

And the mentors

And the witches

And the ditches

On the road —

And sang under her coat

When the weather

Was heavy and cold

Fear of cloud,

And without

When the weather was wispy and warm.

Och the enchantment

When we choose

To follow one’s skin

To the East,

To the East,

To follow one’s skin

To the East!

There was a restless girl

A restless girl was she,

Searching for some key

Broke codes

Made love

Lies, deceive

Promises unfulfilled

In spite

Of the might

Of the tash

Nor afraid

Of the antiquities alive,

She often would

Struggle with the hedgerow

And go,

By hook or crook

To the Brook

In the waves

Feel and drown

Now and then,

Grew fond of blue

Underneath and reflected

And bring to bed

The stings of crabs

Push of waves

Life beneath surface

And weight of sand

O she made

Of all the words

She could not say

A Poem —

A Poem,

Of all the feelings

Left unexpressed

A Poem!

There was a restless girl,

A restless girl was she

She soon grew into a woman

The people for to see —

There she found

That the bed

Was as hard,

That the night

Was as long,

That the people

Were as tresspassy,

That the skin

Was as prone to burn,

That the heart

Was as caged,

That the feelings

Were as short of words,

That the identity

Was as lost

As in Childhood —

So she stood

In her sapped shoes

And she wonder’d,

She wonder’d,

She stood in her shoes

And she wonder’d.
